in a holiday mood

Well I'm back from break, but maybe just as tired as when I left.  Does that every happen to you guys, where you come back less relaxed after a vacation?  And the sucky part was that I had all this work hanging over my head throughout break, so I was never completely at ease and relaxed.  All right, enough of the negativity- I had a great time in New York with my suitemate, did lots of good shopping, and had a very yummy Thanksgiving meal.  I'm also excited about all the things that I bought online that will slowly be arriving in my mailbox- I love getting packages!  I'm finally starting to get something accomplished, starting with writing this post and continuing with decorating my suite for the holidays.  I absolutely love Christmas and I'm one of those people who starts listening to Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving! (Click here to listen to one of my all-time faves- although someone just pointed out to me how creepy the lyrics really are!).  Here's an outfit that I wore for a holiday dinner- I really love the simple elegance of this long-sleeved dress.  Also, these boots have an interesting story.  When I saw them online, I was desperately in love with them, but I didn't want to buy them without trying them on because I wasn't sure if they would suit my foot (I don't like shoes that make my feet look any larger than they are- I wear a size 9 or 10).  However, when I looked to see if they were in stock in a store near me, it said that they weren't available in any store within 50 miles of me.  Needless to say, I was really bummed (when I want something, I get really obsessed- it's a very bad habit).  I ended up going to Target that weekend anyway because I need to pick up some stuff and decided to check the shoe section, and get this- they had only one pair of these boots and they were in my size!  I couldn't believe it!  So that's my little tale of how the shopping gods smiled down upon me =)

I want to hear all about your Thanksgiving and Black Friday experiences- do tell! :)

flower girl

I'm finally starting to catch up!  I wore this outfit when we had a few unseasonably warm days in CT.

Right now, I'm on Thanksgiving break.  It is so nice not to have any class at all this week.  However, as with most breaks, I feel like I don't have enough time to do all the things I want to do!  Especially since I have a lot of homework this break (booo) that I really have to get done.  I've been avoiding it for the past couple of days and shopping instead (which my bank account will not thank me for!).  I'm hoping to at least get some work done tomorrow, then I'm looking forward to cooking and eating and relaxing on Thanksgiving day.  What do you guys have planned for Thanksgiving?

not a scary kitty

When I wore this tank for the first time, my friends told me that the kitty was scary looking.  I was shocked- in my mind, he was just a cute kitty wearing a captain's hat.  That's okay, even if they don't like the kitty I still do!  Also, I scored this skirt at Old Navy for only $5!  I thought it was going to be $10, but when I took it to the register, it was half off.  I love when that happens!

Today has turned out to be a surprisingly good Monday.  One of my classes unexpectedly got canceled, giving me time to run some errands and I found out one of my finals is now take-home, meaning I can now go home a week earlier!  How has your week been so far?

prep school

photos from Cosmo November(?) Issue

I saw these pictures on Style Glaree and just had to post them because they were photographed at my school!  It was pretty trippy realizing that I recognize the buildings in the background because this is where I live!  Also, the styling is very cute and classic- something I'd like to imitate in my outfits.  Anybody else liking this preppy style for fall/winter?

bring on the blazer

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I had a blast yesterday and plan to keep celebrating into the weekend.  I'll do a birthday post sometime next week with pictures from my themed party!

Here's an outfit I wore recently- I really wanted to wear this blazer, but at first the outfit felt a little too masculine for me.  Then I added some girly touches by wearing a pink ruffly shirt underneath and a pearl ring and voilà, totally me!  Once again reminding me of how girly my style is, hehe :)

marching to the beat

I didn't even realize until after I put this outfit together how military-inspired it is!  I'm wearing my new Forever 21 coat, which is perfect for this fall weather when it's not quite cold enough to put one of my winter coats.  Also, this is another post featuring my new combat boots- clearly I can't wear them enough :D

In other news, I've picked my next knitting project!  I've decided to do this cute lace vest that has been in my queue on Ravelry forever, so I'm taking advantage of the birthday coupon that my local yarn store offers and going to pick out some yarn today.  I love starting a new knitting project- first the difficulty of picking a pattern that you want to devote your time and energy to, then the excitement of going to the yarn store and feeling all the different types of yarn until you find the one that's meant to be, the process of casting on, and finally the anticipation of wondering how your project will turn out.  I love the whole experience :)

One more day!! (I'm still that little girl who gets super excited about her birthday, hehe)

bonjour, mon amour!

The other day, I was thinking about all the good times I had in Europe the past two summers, and I was feeling really nostalgic.  That's how this outfit was born. The funny thing is that I bought this shirt with the Eiffel Tower in a small store in Madrid.  So in a way, it combines my love of both countries, Spain and France!  Also, I love that the words are written in sequins, it definitely brightens up my day.

In other news, I'll be celebrating my birthday in three days! I can't wait :D Any other November birthdays?

time for combat

I love my new boots!  They are so comfortable and work with so many outfits.  The best part is that they were less than $25, including s + h!!  Here are just two ways that I've worn them so far:

floating on a cloud

The idea for this outfit came from this tip on Glamour.  It's a great way to transition your dresses into fall!  All you have to do is layer a cozy cardigan over a dress of your choice.  I chose this pink floaty dress, which I've only worn to fancier events, and made it appropriate for a fall day by wearing it under a super-soft cashmere sweater that I got for free in clothes exchange!  Easy, comfy, and cute :)  Have you guys tried layering a sweater over one of your summer dresses?

never too late to play dress up

Finally, the Halloween pictures that I've been promising!  For the first night of Halloweekend, I quickly threw together a costume because I didn't want to bust out my real one yet, and I went as Piglet.  For the rest of Halloweekend, I was a tightrope walker.  Along with my roommates, we all formed a very small band of circus performers.  Our motto was, "Small band, big talent!" We created this whole backstory to go along with our costumes (can you tell we were really into it? haha)  One roommate was a clown and the other was the ringmaster.  The story was that the ringmaster had fired the clown, so she was really dejected and depressed, and maybe even a little crazy!  Also, as friends of both characters, I was caught in the middle and hanging in the balance (haha, get it?)  Anyway, with that in mind, I hope you enjoy these pictures!  Does anybody else have a good story behind their costume?
